Do you distinguish art from skill and on what basis?

Now I am provocative - I want to provoke thinking about art.

And I am subjective - I use my own recent painting as an example and present subjective views.

This painting is Night over canal, Jussi Vaarala 2026, Finn b 1954

From a skill perspective, it is mostly mediocre. But I didn't strive for appearance - but for visibility.

So I loosened the requirements for appearance - which are kind of absurd because that is improvisation without models - and so I didn't strive for appearance and truthfulness with my skills - but for visibility.

So I wanted to make an improved reality of appearance - which is also and that is the skill that is able to make an improved reality - which is actually the deepest core of art.

Well - what is art in that painting in the sense of the above.

I like that yellow and blue house with the light of the lamps - and the canal with the reflections of the lamps.

Feel free to express your views.

Ps. I'm not saying it's good art - some people like it, some don't.
